Polar bears, arctic birds and beluga whales – the wilderness beckons. Spend five nights at Seal River Heritage Lodge immersed in nature's splendour. Mornings start with polar bear tracking on foot or in a vehicle, and evenings are open for discovering the aurora borealis.
Welcome to Winnipeg. Meet your fellow travellers and guide over dinner this evening. Anticipation will be high for the journey ahead.
In the true spirit of your Remote Journey, head off the beaten track to the town of Churchill. After you touch down, a seaplane will then take you on an aerial tour along Hudson Bay to your lodge. Soaring above the region, it becomes apparent just how far removed you are. Named a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World, Seal River Heritage Lodge puts you right in the heart of polar bear country. Have a quick tour of the premises before settling in to your room. Lunch today showcases the wild delights of the area. Afterwards, head out to the coast for your first foray with local guides leading the way. Make sure you don’t forget to bring your camera – you never know when the bears will show their faces. Back at the lodge, settle in for a good night’s sleep in preparation for the next day's activities.
You’ll have plenty of time to take in the surrounds at Seal River Heritage Lodge. Start the day off with a gourmet breakfast, inspired by the locally grown and sourced produce surrounding the lodge. Then, a range of awe-inspiring activities are on the table.
Step into the wild on a guided walking adventure, led by your expert guide, where you may be rewarded with some of the most unforgettable sightings of your journey. If explorations in water are more your style, you can join a boat in search of polar bears and beluga whales. Head along the Hudson Bay coast in a custom-made Tundra Tracker buggy. Scope out the wildlife, including foxes and caribou, or seek out over 100 species of birds on various walking tours.
Your nights are celebrated in an authentic fashion, with locally sourced Arctic produce and drinks on the table every night. Some evenings are even clear enough to see the phenomenal aurora borealis. During your time here, you’ll also enjoy lectures with your expert wildlife guides.
Continue your adventures at the lodge, where breathtaking landscapes and immersive nature experiences await. Each day, you can join two guided walking excursions – one in the morning and another in the afternoon. These scenic walks are set at a comfortable pace, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the surroundings, capture stunning photographs, and fully appreciate the sights and sounds of nature.
More discoveries await today as you uncover the wonders of this idyllic location. Delight in a range of activities (dependent on weather and tides), offering incredible opportunities to immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness.
Take in the raw beauty of this remote environment on your daily tundra treks. On these spectacular hikes, you'll explore the Arctic tundra or the breathtaking coastline of Hudson Bay. If conditions allow, set out on a boat trip to the Seal River Estuary, where thousands of playful beluga whales gather. Watch them glide through the water and listen for their distinctive calls.
Enjoy another day of activities as you make the most of your final day at the lodge. Set out on your daily walking excursions and capture incredible photos of the surrounding landscape. Perhaps venture further along the rugged coastline on a buggy tour, offering you the opportunity to spot Arctic wildlife in their natural habitat.
Say goodbye to the Arctic landscapes and your lodge. After a final breakfast this morning, fly back to Churchill, where you’ll spend the day with a local guide exploring the town and surrounding area, learning about its rich history as a seaport and ex-military base. Enjoy fascinating stops at the Parks Canada exhibit, the Itsanitaq Museum, and the Polar Bear Jail. Later, you’ll board a flight back to Winnipeg.
Your spectacular journey comes to an end today as you are transferred to the airport.
