This trip starts in Broome with an early pick-up at 7:30am on day 1 at our default pick-up location, unless you request an alternative pick-up location well ahead of departure. The trip finishes at around 7:00pm on the last day. We recommend you arrive a day prior to the trip's departure date and onward travel should not be booked until the following day.

TRIP STYLE & SLEEPING BAG
Accommodation on this trip is twin share and is a combination of pop-up tents and permanent tents with basic beds. Each traveller will also get a swag (Australian bedroll), so you can opt to sleep under stars, a true Australian experience. Please bring your own sleeping bag or purchase one from us in advance. A pillow, pillowcase, bottom sheet and a swag/canvas bed roll are always provided.

SINGLE TRAVELLERS & ACCOMMODATION UPGRADE
A Single Supplement is not available on the default version of this trip. As a single traveller you will share a tent with another single traveller of the same gender, or you can use your swag. An accommodation upgrade (Camping Plus) is available upon request and subject to availability, at an additional cost. Camping Plus can also be booked with the option for a single supplement. Please see the accommodation section of your trip notes or speak to your travel agent for more details.

WEATHER
Departures are all subject to regional weather conditions and road closures – usually only a concern in Apr & Oct / Nov.

LUGGAGE
Space in our vehicles is limited so please keep luggage light – bring only essentials in a small soft bag, MAXIMUM 15kg. Suitcases are NOT suitable. Excess luggage must be left in Broome or sent to a forward destination.

PARTICIPATORY CAMPING
It is important that travellers participate in setting up camp each night, though the leader can assist where necessary. The leader also appreciates the assistance or one or two group members in preparing/clearing meals. It is essential that all our groups leave the camp they stay in as they found them for the next travellers - the Kimberley is a pristine wilderness and it is our responsibility to ensure it stays this way.

Day 1: Broome / Fitzroy Crossing
Welcome to Broome! Or Rubibi, in the language of the Yawuru people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which Broome is now located. Start your adventure straight away, setting off early this morning as you travel east towards Fitzroy Crossing. This morning your local leader will pick you up from your hotel at about 8 am. You’ll start your adventure right away and join the Darlgunya Cultural Walk, where your local Indigenous guide greets you with a Smoking Ceremony and some billy tea. Then, stroll through the remnants of the old postal settlement. Learn about the wild Fitzroy River from your guide – its plants, wildlife and the significance to local culture. Tonight, watch the sunset and the stars as they come alive, away from the city lights.
Day 2: China Wall / Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Today, you’ll visit the gold rush town of Halls Creek to see the remarkable China Wall on the way to Purnululu National Park – home of the magnificent Bungle Bungles. When you arrive in Purnululu, take some time to settle into your safari camp, then sit back, relax and enjoy the bush sunset. Relax with a delicious meal and an evening under the stars.
Day 3: Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles)
Spend the next day exploring the highlights of Purnululu National Park, the most famous of which are the Bungle Bungle domes. Rivers created this landscape of unique orange and black striped ‘beehive’ geological formations over a period of 20 million years. Unbelievably, only the locals knew it existed until the early 1980s. To protect its unique landscape, the area was made a national park in 1987 and now boasts UNESCO World Heritage status. You’ll explore the Echidna Chasm today, known for its towering Livistonia Palm trees. Take the short walk into the gorgeous Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre.
Day 4: Mimbi Caves / Fitzroy Crossing
Say goodbye to Purnululu and travel to the ancient realm of Mimbi Caves – one of Western Australia's largest cave systems, in the heart of Gooniyandi Country. Spiritually significant, these limestone caves are one of the oldest identified sites of human occupation in Australia. Delve into Dreamtime with a local Gooniyandi guide who will share traditional stories and reveal the secrets of Mimbi Caves – a sanctuary of crystal-clear pools, rare fossils and ancient rock art. Share fresh damper and billy tea with the Gooniyandi traditional owners before you head back to Fitzroy Crossing.
Day 5: Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek) / Windjana Gorge / Derby / Broome
Following another night by the Fitzroy River, you’ll head for Bunuba country – once a Devonian reef, this terrain is over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. Stop at Tunnel Creek – a 750-m cave system where you can explore secret caves and a large variety of wildlife. Here, you’ll also learn the legend of Jandamarra – an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide-out in the late 1800s. Travel to the geological wonder of Windjana Gorge – a delightful oasis in the outback. Beneath gorge walls rising 90 m, enjoy a picnic lunch as you search for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife and Indigenous bushtucker. The Gibb River Road then leads you from the Napier Ranges to Broome via the Derby ‘Boab Prison Tree’. When you arrive, your trip will come to an end. If you’d like to extend your stay, just reach out to your booking agent.
