Wild Frontiers of Melanesia

Sail far off the map with this remote voyage through Indonesia and Papua New Guinea’s untouched islands, coral-rich waters and traditional riverfront communities. This is an authentic exploration of one of the world’s last true frontiers.
This extraordinary journey sails from Sorong into some of the most remote and least-travelled waters of the Indo-Pacific, crossing from Indonesia’s West Papua region into the wild coastal and river systems of Papua New Guinea. As you head towards Ayu Atoll, the horizon opens to a ring of low-lying islands and luminous lagoons, where you can snorkel over coral gardens, swim in clear shallows, or take a tender ride around reef-fringed sandbars. Further south, the biodiverse waters of Cenderawasih Bay invite you to spend long, unhurried sessions in the water, drifting above colourful coral and, conditions permitting, spotting whale sharks in sheltered bays. The voyage then shifts towards cultural immersion along the Sepik River and nearby coastal communities, where you might step ashore for village welcomes, view intricate carving traditions, or join guided walks to learn about local customs and stories. Along Papua New Guinea’s coast, everyday harbour life, simple markets, and waterfront strolls deepen your connection to this rarely visited region.
