Day 1 - Arrive Santiago

Arrive in Santiago, the Chilean capital. Situated in the Santiago basin and flanked by the Andes, this metropolis enjoys one of the most stunning settings of any city in the world. On arrival, be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a Welcome Reception this evening.

Day 2 - Santiago, Valparaíso

After breakfast, head off to explore the port city of Valparaíso, one of the South Pacific’s most important seaports. Tour the World Heritage-listed town centre, lined with colourful houses and historic buildings. Continue with a scenic drive into the surrounding hills to take in panoramic views of the bay and the vibrant cityscape below. Later, return to Santiago and unwind with an evening at your leisure.

Day 3 - Santiago, Embark Holland America Line Cruise

Start the day with an Insider Experience. Afterwards, travel to the port and board your cruise ship, Holland America Line’s MS Oosterdam, marking the beginning of your spectacular journey through the Chilean fjords. 

Insider Experience – Santiago by Funicular and Cable Car 

Embark on a guided tour of Santiago, as you explore its modern and historic sites. Wander through the Plaza de Armas de Santiago, a bustling urban square, which is considered to be the symbolic heart of the city. Take in spectacular views of Santiago as you ride a cable car up San Cristóbal Hill. Then travel on a funicular through Parque Metropolitano, a 722-hectare park set above the city.

Day 4 - Chilean Coast

Take in the views of the ever-changing Chilean coastline from one of the many vantage points on board.

Day 5 - Puerto Montt

Arrive in the Chilean port city of Puerto Montt, considered the gateway to the region’s lakes, volcanic landscapes and national parks. While ashore, among other excursions available, you might like to visit a unique 100-year-old German settlement or meet the Indigenous communities of Mapuche people. As part of your Holland America Line cruise, an extensive range of activities and excursions are on offer at every port (own expense).

Day 6 - Puerto Chacabuco

This tiny port town offers a chance to discover some of the natural wonders of this part of Chilean Patagonia, from on the water kayaking, to on foot along walking trails to waterfalls and stunning rainforests.

Day 7 - Chilean Fjords

Chile’s fjord region sprawls some 1,500 kilometres. Today, your ship will not sail in a straight line, it will meander along the jagged coastline, through fjords and iceberg-strewn bays fringed by mountains.

Day 8 - Canal Sarmiento, Amalia Glacier

Cruise the Canal Sarmiento today, one of the main channels in Patagonia, where glaciers descend into turquoise waters. With the Chilean mainland to the east and the islands of Esperanza, Vancouver and Piazzi flanking the channel to the west, the scenery is spectacular.

Day 9 - Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas

Before the Panama Canal, only the Strait of Magellan linked the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by boat. This important route was first traversed by Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan in 1520 during a Spanish expedition to the East Indies. Today, it’s your turn to cruise this stunning stretch of water. At Punta Arenas there are many options to explore. Perhaps discover the glaciers and peaks of World Heritage-listed Torres del Paine National Park. Alternatively, go sea kayaking, take a heritage walking tour or set off on a wildlife tour on Magdalena Island.

Day 10 - Glacier Alley, Ushuaia

Experience the stunning natural beauty as you sail through the spectacular Glacier Alley.

Day 11 - Cape Horn

Sail around the infamous southern-most point of South America and enjoy stunning views of the rugged, rocky coastline and surrounding islands.

Day 12 - Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, Islas Malvinas

Disembark in Stanley today, the Falkland Islands’ remote capital. The Falkland Islands were first colonised by the British in 1765, a history that is evident all throughout the town, from the red phone boxes through to the pubs. Perhaps take a historical tour or join one of the many wildlife activities available. You might like to see penguins at one of the world’s largest rookeries, which is home to five of the world’s 18 species of penguins – the gentoo, magellanic, southern rockhopper, macaroni and king penguin.

Day 13 - At Sea

Relax on board the MS Oosterdam. Perhaps take in a thrilling show in the lounge or drop by the Greenhouse Spa and Salon.

Day 14 - At Sea

Enjoy another relaxing day cruising aboard your ship, taking in the scenery and making the most of the onboard facilities and dining.

Day 15 - Montevideo

Wake to views of Uruguay’s capital Montevideo. Here, perhaps take a tour of the city’s Old Town or explore the quaint streets of World Heritage-listed Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay’s oldest town. Alternatively, savour lunch and a wine-tasting at Juanico Winery or head down the coast to explore Punta del Este, known as the Saint-Tropez of Uruguay.

Day 16 - Buenos Aires

Enjoy free time today in Buenos Aires. You may choose to relax on board or perhaps set off to explore this vibrant city further.

Day 17 - Buenos Aires, Disembark Holland America Line Cruise

Disembark your cruise this morning and enjoy a guided city tour, which includes a visit to the colourful La Boca region and the neighbourhood of Palermo. Then, visit a traditional coffee house during an Insider Experience. In the evening, immerse yourself in Argentine culture during another spectacular Insider Experience.

Journey back in time and visit a traditional coffee house with a rich history. Here, savour a cup of delicious coffee and a selection of Spanish delicacies. Buenos Aires is renowned for its coffee culture, emblematic of the city’s social atmosphere.

There’s no better place than Buenos Aires in Argentina to take in an energetic and intense tango show. See how the locals perform their traditional dance and be mesmerised by the passion, creativity and history it encompasses. 

Day 18 - Buenos Aires

Day 19 - Buenos Aires, Iguazú Falls

Fly to Iguazú Falls, the spectacular system of 275 falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil. On the Argentinian side, ride the Ecological Train to a series of walkways and viewing points. This narrow-gauge train stops at several locations including one that leads to the 82-metre-high Devil’s Throat, one of the most incredible falls of the region. Afterwards, perhaps enjoy your Enhance your Journey experience.

Board a speedboat and get up close to the mighty Iguazú Falls, feeling the raw power of the cascades as you race through the rapids. This unforgettable experience offers an awe-inspiring view of the falls’ grandeur from a thrilling perspective.

Today on the Brazilian side of the falls, experience the majesty of World Heritage-listed Iguaçu National Park during a half-day tour. Walk through spectacular subtropical rainforest and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the falls. Afterwards, you might like to participate in an Enhance your Journey experience.

Day 21 - Iguazú Falls, Rio de Janeiro

This morning, you may like to choose our Enhance Your Journey experience. Later, fly to beautiful Rio de Janeiro, also known as ‘Cidade Maravilhosa’ – Portuguese for the Marvellous City. After checking in, enjoy time to recharge or stroll along the stunning Copacabana beachfront.

Day 22 - Rio de Janeiro

Today, head to Corcovado Mountain and visit the incredible statue of Christ the Redeemer, the world’s largest art deco sculpture. Admire the breathtaking views of Rio de Janeiro and its stunning surroundings. Later, ride a cable car to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain and watch a spectacular sunset.

Day 23 - Rio de Janeiro

In a capital city as dynamic as Rio, there is always something around to discover. Today, you have a full day set aside to relax or explore what this vibrant city has to offer, from beautiful, landscaped parks and botanical gardens to bohemian neighbourhoods and long stretches of sandy beaches. For dinner this evening, a special Insider Experience awaits.

Day 24 - Rio de Janeiro, Lima

Your morning begins with an early flight to Peru's capital, Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, savour a delicious Peruvian lunch at the famous Casa Tambo. Afterwards, embark on a tour of the city’s historic centre. Visit the Iglesia de Santo Domingo, one of Lima’s most historic religious sites. The expansive 16th-century pink church and convent is renowned for being the resting place for three Peruvian saints. The evening is free for you to spend at leisure.

Day 25 - Lima, Cusco, Chinchero, Sacred Valley

After breakfast, fly to the World Heritage-listed city of Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. Travel through Cusco to Chinchero, a city located in the stunning Andean highlands. Here, you will enjoy an enriching Insider Experience. Later, head to your premium hotel in the Sacred Valley, where another Insider Experience awaits.

Visit the Pisac ruins and gain a deeper insight into the Inca Empire. Perched atop a high hill overlooking the town, the unique Inca archaeological site features impressive agricultural terracing, military structures, and working water channels. From the back of the citadel, you can gaze across the Kitamayo Gorge, where hundreds of Inca tombs are carved into the cliff face.

Insider Experience – A Taste of the Sacred Valley

Savor an authentic taste of traditional culture and cuisine during a visit to a local family home in the Sacred Valley, where you’ll be treated to a home-cooked Andean meal.

Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape as you travel through the Urubamba River Valley to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. The Andes Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop as you pass through lush vegetation, dense forests and cascading waterfalls, taking in the breathtaking views through the train's panoramic windows.

Day 28 - Machu Picchu, Cusco

With the morning free, consider exploring the vibrant stalls of the Mercado de Artesanias craft market in Aguas Calientes. Later, reboard your train for a wonderful journey to Ollantaytambo station before a coach returns you to Cusco. In the evening, indulge in a delicious Peruvian dinner accompanied by a captivating traditional folklore show at a local restaurant.

Day 29 - Cusco

Today, a guided walking tour of Cusco will take you to the city’s historic heart, the Plaza de Armas. You will visit Koricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, once the most important temple in the Inca Empire. Though it was ruined in the 16th century, its stonework now forms the foundation of the Baroque Church and Convent of Santo Domingo. Following the tour, the afternoon is yours to tour Cusco at your own leisure. You may choose to enhance your experience with one of the Enhance Your Journey options available to you.

On the border of Peru and Bolivia, enjoy a delightful cruise to the home of the Indigenous Uros people who inhabit the floating islands of Lake Titicaca. The Uros people are known for their unique way of life and have a long history that dates back to pre-Columbian times. Visit one of the 40 floating islands, Titino, before reaching the lesser-known community of Luquina. Learn about daily life and customs from the locals before enjoying a simple but fresh Andean lunch in the community’s restaurant. 

 

Day 32 - Puno, Lima
