If you’re all about the elusive Arctic polar bear, then this is the holiday for you. Located in one of the most densely populated polar bear regions, four nights at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge gives you the best chance at a special encounter.
Arrive in Winnipeg and meet your fellow travellers and guide over dinner this evening.
This morning, you’ll leave Winnipeg and fly to Churchill where a private plane awaits. It takes just one hour to fly north to Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, so make sure you savour every view of these spectacularly remote landscapes. Once you’ve arrived, a host from the lodge will take you around so you can become familiar with your residence on the shores of Hudson Bay. Sit down for a spot of lunch before heading out on the Palsa Bogs and Tundra Ponds for an interpretive walk. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for any polar bears. You’ll learn about the region from a local as you are taken to all the best spots to see local wildlife. In celebration of your first expedition, canapés and cocktails are served back at the lodge, before dinner and a presentation from your guides. Enjoy a restful sleep this evening as the anticipation builds for the three action-packed days ahead.
At Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, every morning begins with a gourmet breakfast. And as daring travellers in search of the ‘Kings of the Arctic’, this is the perfect way to kick-start the morning. The lodge is famous for its signature ground-level walking tours, where you have the rare chance to see polar bears on eye-level. You’ll start the day by heading to nearby lookouts in search of the white-furred animals. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see a mother and her cubs from afar. Unlike with other lodges and groups, there’s no glass and no fences here – just you and the polar bears – a thrilling experience for any animal enthusiast! Test your eye with some wildlife photography or set off on ATV day trips along the tundra to explore among the rare and remote wilderness. Wolves, black bears and moose tend to congregate close by the lodge, so there are also lots of opportunities to see the different wildlife. In the evenings, your lodge staff will keep their eyes on the sky, monitoring weather conditions in case the aurora borealis decides to come out. If you wish, they’ll even come by for a wake-up call so you don’t miss the excitement.
Continue your adventures.
