Did you know that you can actually stay in Peru’s Amazon Jungle? The giant jungle – which spans 8 countries and is home to more than 2 million Indigenous people – is the perfect place to explore, with a lodge to return home to every day. Walk through the rainforest, cruise along waterways, spot wildlife you’ve never seen before and learn about the healing properties of native plants. This short break is a great way to get to know the friendly people and the amazing creatures that call the Amazon home.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. This Independent Short Break is a ‘join in’ group departure, which means you are not accompanied by an Intrepid group leader – our local representative fills this role – and the configuration of any fellow travelers in the group might change during the trip. This trip will run with a minimum of one person, so you may be joined by other travelers booked on the same date as you, or you may be on your own. This is a join in trip where you will be joined by other like minded travelers on transfers, at the jungle lodge and during jungle activities.
2. You must arrive to Puerto Maldonado by 1pm on day 1 of the trip. As you will be picked from the airport by a lodge representative, it is imperative that you inform us your arrival flight details into Puerto Maldonado at least 15 days prior to the start of the trip. Please note the complimentary transfer can only be used on the start day of this trip. However, If you arrive one or more days early in Puerto Maldonado city, and would like to be picked up from your hotel on Day 1, you need to send us the hotel name at least 15 days prior to the start of the trip. Alternatively you'll need to make your way back to the airport by 12 pm for the regular pick-up.
3. On the final day you will take a morning motorized canoe back to Puerto Maldanado port and a transfer to the airport. Please do not book any flights prior to 11:45am
4. Please provide your full name exactly as per passport at the time of booking (including any middle names listed on your passport). Fees may apply for amendments to details within 45 days of departure. Delays to provide this information may result in third party booking fees.
5. Age restrictions apply to this trip - minimum age 5.

Collapse allDay 1: Puerto Maldonado
Hola! Welcome to Peru. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, guests are welcomed by a local representative and
transferred to the river port. From here, a scenic boat journey into the Amazon Rainforest begins. During the transfer, there may be opportunities to spot wildlife along the riverbanks, including birds, monkeys, caimans and other native species. Upon arrival at the lodge, guests receive a welcome briefing and information about the activities planned for the coming days. After some time to settle in, there may be an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding rainforest and admire the sunset.
In the evening, guests head out on a guided nocturnal excursion along the river in search of caimans and other wildlife that become active after dark. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Amazon Jungle
After an early breakfast, guests explore one of the region’s lakes or wetlands, a unique ecosystem that supports a remarkable diversity of wildlife. Depending on seasonal conditions and wildlife activity, visitors may observe aquatic birds, reptiles, monkeys and, with some luck, giant river otters. Return to the lodge for lunch and time to relax.In the afternoon, guests enjoy a guided rainforest excursion, which may include walking trails, observation platforms or other viewpoints that provide a different perspective of the Amazon canopy. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the rainforest ecosystem, local flora and fauna, and ongoing conservation efforts in the region.
Day 3: Amazon Jungle
An early morning excursion offers the opportunity to observe some of Amazon’s colorful birdlife. Depending on the location and season, guests may visit areas where parrots, parakeets and other species gather in large numbers. After breakfast, a guided walk-through primary rainforest reveals the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon. Along the way, guests learn about medicinal plants, towering trees, forest ecology and the intricate relationships between the species that inhabit this environment.
Following lunch and some time to rest, guests may visit a local community project or learn about traditional
livelihoods practiced in the region, providing insight into the relationship between local communities and the
rainforest. After dinner, an optional night walk allows guests to experience the rainforest after dark. Insects,
amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal species can often be encountered, while the sounds of the jungle create a truly memorable atmosphere.
Day 4: Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, guests may enjoy a final nature walk, subject to departure schedules. This last opportunity in the rainforest offers the chance to spot additional wildlife and appreciate the beauty of the Amazon before returning to Puerto Maldonado for onward travel.
