This morning, transfer from your hotel to the airport for a flight to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the mighty Amazon Jungle. When you arrive, hop in a motorboat and travel along the Tambopata River to reach your jungle lodge for the next two nights – don't forget to look out for wildlife along the way! After checking into your accommodation, start exploring – depending on the season, you’ll be able to choose from a range of activities like guided nature walks, birdwatching at the Sotupa clay lick, kayaking and paddleboarding. This evening, you can opt in to a boat ride in search of white, black, dwarf and smooth-fronted caimans in the river, keeping your eyes peeled for the glow of these remarkable creatures’ eyes in the darkness. Alternatively, you could go on a guided night walk to see monkeys, opossums, porcupines, pink-footed tarantulas, wolf spiders, cat-eyed snakes and more as you listen to the night-time sounds of the jungle. Speak to your leader about what activities are on offer to help you make the most of your first day in the Amazon.
