Yardie Creek Road, 6707, Cape Range National Park, Australia

1,200 kilometres north of Perth sits a magical place where words can’t do justice. Ningaloo Reef, the world’s largest fringing coral reef, awaits. This 260-kilometres long spectacle is just a few salt-watery steps from the eco-luxury safari tents of Sal Salis.

Magical because it’s the rarest of places. Where outback, reef and ranges meet and merge… amidst a spectrum of colour for which, only nature has the palette.

Your stay may include sea kayaking to some of our secret spots on the reef where you will see huge schools of fish, reef sharks and coral formations, a drift snorkel just a few metres offshore (all snorkelling gear is provided), wildlife and bird spotting and guided gorge walks at Mandu Mandu Gorge.
There is no need to pre-book these activities, each day is mapped out by the guides to consider the weather and the tide.

We also have kayaks and paddleboards with life vests and our library is well-stocked with reference books.

What should I bring?
The dress code is relaxed – resort wear during the day and smart casual in the evening.
Light clothing is more suitable in the summer months. Long sleeves will offer better protection against the sun

In winter warm clothes including wind protection against the afternoon breeze are essential. From May to September the nights can be cold, and a fleecy jacket or shawl will be handy

A wide brimmed hat

Sunglasses

Binoculars for keen wildlife or bird enthusiasts

Sunscreen

Light walking boots or trainers for the gorge walk

What special dietary requirements can be catered for?

We can cater for most dietary requirements (allergies, gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian, vegan). Being in a remote location our chefs need to plan meals and order in advance, so please ensure you provide us with any dietary requests prior to your arrival.

Can children stay at Sal Salis?

Sal Salis welcomes children aged 10 years and over.

Is there phone service or WiFi available at camp?

There is no mobile coverage or internet access available at Sal Salis. Telstra is the only mobile service provider in the area and once you leave town you will have intermittent reception for a short while before losing it completely.
In the case of an emergency, family or friends will be able to contact you on the Sal Salis telephone number +61 (0)8 9949 4173. Please note that this phone is not attended 24 hours.

Is there power at camp?

Much of the power used within the camp is solar generated, and usage of it is carefully managed. Australia operates on 240V and uses a 2 or 3-pin plug.
It is important to know that while each tent has a light, and a USB phone charger (note there is no phone reception in camp) there are no power points available in them. Cameras and laptops can be recharged in the main lodge area.
People that travel with a sleep apnoea machine will need to make prior arrangement with management and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
We strongly encourage guests bring a travel battery for their CPAP machines.

Are pets permitted at Sal Salis?

Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef does not permit pets.
Guests staying at Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef are not permitted to feed the wildlife.

Are there any restrictions on water usage?

In keeping with best practice eco sustainability, our landlords (The Department of Parks and Wildlife) requirements and our own sustainable policies, each tent is allocated 20 litres of water per person, per day.
Restricting fresh water run-off not only reduces the likelihood of weed growth but protects the Ningaloo Reef, as ultimately the shower water will percolate through the soil, adding fresh water to our shoreline and to the Reef.
Under normal circumstances and with judicious use, 20 litres of water should be ample for daily needs.
We have a 3-minute shower time policy, and recommend a swim in the ocean as the best way to freshen up in the morning.

Is smoking permitted at camp?

Smoking is not permitted at the Main Lodge or inside your tent.
Closed ashtrays can be provided on request for use at the beach. No smoking on any tour activities is permitted.

What if I use a CPAP machine?

For guests travelling with a CPAP machine, we strongly encourage you to bring a travel battery. Due to the remoteness of our camp, our wilderness tents are not equipped with power points.
Power points for charging are available in our main lodge area.

What if I have limited mobility?

Sal Salis seeks to ensure that our guests experience the unique environment of the world heritage listed Ningaloo Reef. Our camp is located amongst sand dunes and surrounded by Cape Range National Park’s rugged landscape. Due to our unique location this also means that guests who travel into this area may not be supported with the same infrastructure as found in urban areas.
As we are in a remote location and due to development restrictions, strict environmental policies and our unwavering commitment to reducing impacts on our local environment, means that activities or accessing some areas of Sal Salis will include walking on uneven surfaces, through sloping walking paths and sand dunes. This can mean that guests with fitness and / or mobility restrictions may not be able to experience all of the Sal Salis facilities and activities.
A solar powered golf buggy does provide guest and luggage transport from the closest car park for check in and check out of the main lodge facility.
If your fitness to travel may be in doubt as a result of recent illness, surgery, injury, medical treatment or an existing medical condition you should seek medical advice prior to commencing your visit to Sal Salis.
Your safety and comfort are important to us. If you have any special or specific needs or require assistance, please discuss this with the Sal Salis reservations team on

08 9949 1776.

How many people can stay in a Wilderness Tent?

Our Wilderness Tents sleep a maximum of 3 people, either 2 adults and 1 child or 1 adult and 2 children. We have swag bedding available for children aged 10-16.

The bedding configuration for 3 people is 2 people in either the king or twin bedding and the third person in the swag bedding.

Should I do a whale shark or humpback swim before, during or after my stay at Sal Salis?

The standard length of a whale swim tour means that you’re away from the camp for the whole day. If you would like to maximise your time at Sal Salis, we would recommend that you book your swim for before or after your stay.
If you’re staying at Sal Salis for 4+ nights, we would recommend that you do your swim during your stay.
