Embark on a 12-day journey, starting in Zürich before exploring Lucerne on land and cruising along scenic waterways from Basel to Amsterdam. Experience the iconic cogwheel train to the summit of Mt Pilatus for stunning panoramic views. A perfect blend of alpine adventure and river cruising.

Day 1 - Arrive Zürich

Be met on arrival in Zürich and transferred to your hotel. This evening, meet your fellow travellers and tour director for a Welcome Reception at the hotel.  

Day 2 - Zürich

As Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich offers a blend of natural beauty, modern sophistication and rich history. Stroll along Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping streets, lined with high-end boutiques and luxury brands. Admire the Gothic splendour of Grossmünster Church, believed to stand on the graves of Zurich’s patron saints, Felix and Regula. Your local guide will then lead you to the charming Limmatquai boulevard. This picturesque street runs along the Limmat River, stretching from the historic Old Town to modern fashion boutiques, as well as inviting cafés, chocolatiers, and gourmet restaurants, before reaching the tranquil shores of Lake Zürich.

This evening come together for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 - Zürich, Lucerne

This morning travel to Lucerne. With its breathtaking Swiss Alps backdrop, this city is a delight to explore. On a guided tour, see the Lion of Lucerne, a monument that commemorates events of the French Revolution, and wander along the Chapel Bridge, with its octagonal Water Tower. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Day 4 - Lucerne

Enjoy a special experience today, and tonight enjoy dinner at a charming local restaurant.

Insider Experience – Mt Pilatus

Travel to the peak of Mt Pilatus along the world’s steepest cog-wheel railway, enjoying views of rolling hills, rocky mountain ledges and snow-tipped peaks.

Day 5 - Basel, Embark Ship

Continue to Basel to board your river ship. Tonight, after enjoying some time to relax and settle in, enjoy a Captain’s Welcome Reception onboard. You will have the opportunity to get to know your fellow guests and meet your crew.

Day 6 - Breisach

Disembark in Breisach to discover the Black Forest region. Journey by coach through towering pines and birch forests that cover the mountainsides, to the picturesque village of Triberg. Return to your river ship for a Welcome Dinner on board.

Day 7 - Strasbourg

Arrive in Strasbourg, the charming Alsatian city that straddles the border between France and Germany.  Fairytale houses mix with cobblestone streets and canals, and Strasbourg Cathedral towers over the World Heritage-listed city centre.

Day 8 - Rüdesheim

Continue your cruise through the Rhine Gorge, one of the most enchanting highlights of the journey. Widely regarded as the most scenic stretch of the river, you’ll be captivated by steep slopes blanketed in vineyards and crowned by dramatic, ancient castles. Your ship then docks in Rüdesheim, a charming wine town nestled along the gorge. Board the Winzerexpress mini road train for a scenic ride through the town to Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, home to one of Germany’s finest collections of automated musical instruments.

Day 9 - Cochem

Sit back and soak up the scenery as you cruise through some of Europe’s prettiest stretches along the Moselle River. Discover Cochem on a walking tour, exploring the narrow alleyways with their half-timbered houses. Perched on a hill overlooking the beautiful Moselle River, we visit the magnificent Cochem Castle, which could be straight from the pages of a fairytale. 

Day 10 - Cologne, Brühl

Learn how the twin spires of Cologne’s famous cathedral, the Kölner Dom, took over six centuries to complete as you cruise into this picturesque city. Disembark and take the short drive to Brühl for your Insider Experience. This afternoon, enjoy free time to explore the centre of Cologne at your leisure.

Insider Experience – Augustusburg Palace in Germany

Explore the former residence of Archbishop-Elector Clemens August, the World Heritage-listed Augustusburg Palace in Brühl. Listen to enthralling stories and enjoy a walk through the stunning landscaped parks and gardens between the castle and the Falkenlust hunting lodge. The palace and the lodge are some of the finest examples of rococo architecture from 18th century Germany.

Day 11 - Amsterdam

With historic houses lining its banks and studded with low bridges, Amsterdam’s network of 17th-century canals lends the city its nickname – ‘The Venice of the North’. Today you will board a glass-top boat and glide past the city’s waterside sights with a local guide. Back on land, if time permits, perhaps grab a map to explore this carefree, cosmopolitan city and its magnificent network of canals.

Day 12 - Disembark Ship, Depart Amsterdam

After breakfast, disembark and be transferred to Amsterdam airport for your onward flight.
