Frequently asked questions
Yes for any sailing that calls at New Zealand, because it's an international voyage. Australian citizens don't need a visa or NZeTA for New Zealand, but other passport holders may, and all travellers complete the NZ Traveller Declaration. Check Smartraveller and NZ Immigration before you go. Cruises visiting only Australian ports are domestic, though some lines still ask for a passport.
December to February has the warmest, most settled weather and the best chance of clear fiord views. October, November, March and April are quieter and cheaper. Autumn adds colour if your cruise includes wine regions like Marlborough.
Mostly Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with some sailings from Adelaide, Fremantle, Cairns and Darwin. Leaving from home means no international flights and easier luggage limits, one reason this region suits first-time cruisers.
