The main season runs May to September, with June and July offering the longest daylight, warmest temperatures and best fjord conditions. Late season sailings in September bring autumn colour and improved aurora visibility, while a small number of winter voyages operate specifically for Northern Lights viewing.

Yes, though it's never guaranteed. The aurora requires dark skies, so it can't be seen during the midnight sun of peak summer. Voyages from late September through to March above the Arctic Circle, particularly along the Norwegian coast, offer the best odds, and several operators run dedicated aurora itineraries.

Summer temperatures typically sit between 12 and 20 degrees, cooler on the water and in the fjords themselves, and rain is common year-round on the west coast. Pack layers, a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes, and expect conditions to change several times in a single day.
