What is included in an APT tour or cruise?
APT river, ocean and yacht cruises, along with rail, land and 4WD tours, each offer a different style of travel and inclusions vary by destination.
On a luxury APT Europe River Cruise such as Magnificent Europe – Amsterdam to Budapest aboard APT Solara, inclusions typically include in-suite dining, selected beverages, all sightseeing and an exclusive private event. Mekong River Cruises through Vietnam & Cambodia also include a bonus luxury cruise of Ha Long Bay.
All APT tours and cruises include Signature Experiences and Freedom of Choice activities to live like a local. Most meals are included and are inspired by the regions visited. Some itineraries also feature scenic transfers, flights, rail journeys such as the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, or special experiences like luxury lodge stays and helicopter flights on the Kimberley Complete tour.
How many people are on an APT tour?
Generally speaking, APT keeps tour numbers low to create a more personalised experience. Many tours feature stays in exclusive accommodation and special access to key highlights designed for smaller group travel.
APT’s dedicated Small Group Tours through Japan and South America, along with their 4WD tours of Outback Australia, cater to a maximum of just 24 guests and are led by expert guides. Land journeys through Africa host up to 28 guests.
When it comes to cruising, some newer river ships such as APT Ostara cater just 154 guests for a luxury experience along Europe’s waterways, while Kimberley expedition cruises can accommodate up to 264 passengers.
What is the difference between APT and other tour companies?
Whilst there are other Australian-owned, family-operated tour companies, Australian Pacific Touring (APT) is one of the few that operate in the luxury travel space.
Varying by destination, APT tours include a range of luxury accommodations across resorts, wilderness lodges, high-end hotels and boutique stays.
A key point of difference is APT being among the first to bring luxury European river cruising to market and today offers one of the largest ranges of travel styles, including luxury river and ocean cruises, land tours and rail journeys.
From its beginnings as a Melbourne-based bus company, APT has grown into a global travel operator, still based in Melbourne, and continues to offer land coach tours worldwide.
Who are APT tours best suited to?
APT tours and cruises are designed for Australians seeking a luxury holiday with unique experiences and a seamless journey.
Regionally inspired fine dining and Signature Experiences allow guests to truly immerse themselves in each destination, from a traditional Peruvian lunch in the Andes to an exclusive ‘Sound of Music’ concert in Austria.

Are APT tours fully guided, or do you get free time?
APT tours are mostly structured to be fully guided, however you do get some free time to explore independently.
Signature Experiences are included on most days, while on others, guests can choose from a selection of Freedom of Choice activities, allowing for some flexibility in how each day is spent.
The structure can vary depending on the tour, cruise and destination.
For example, APT Murray River cruises offer more free time onboard, while time ashore is more structured around Signature Experiences. On France river cruises, guided activities are included, along with free time to explore towns before rejoining the ship.
New Zealand land tours tend to offer a balanced mix of guided activities and free time, including full days at leisure, while APT’s Canda land and rail journeys are typically more structured, with less free time.
What is the difference between Travelmarvel and APT?
Travelmarvel is part of the family-owned Australian Pacific Touring (APT) Travel Group, which operates out of Melbourne.
While APT and Travelmarvel both offer a wide range of tours and cruises across the globe, with European river cruising being a specialty for both, APT operates in the luxury travel space, and Travelmarvel in the premium space—offering quality accommodation and great value holidays at a lower price point.
Generally speaking, when comparing land tours, APT tends to include more activities – at times multiple activities in a single day (Signature Experiences) and a choice of additional activities (Freedom of Choice) on others at no extra cost. Travelmarvel includes less activities (Insider Experiences), with optional experiences at an additional cost, allowing a little more flexibility in how travellers choose to spend their time.
