What is included in a Journey Beyond rail holiday?
Irrespective of cabin type—whether it be Suite, Platinum, Gold Premium or Gold—every Journey Beyond rail holiday includes all meals and premium beverages, served in the lounge and restaurant corresponding to each cabin category.
 
Inclusions do vary, from the number of dinner courses and beverage pairings to cabin size, amenities, and whether breakfast is served in-cabin. 
 
For a premium luxury train travel experience, the Australis and Aurora Suites on The Ghan offer exclusive access to the Platinum Club, private in-suite dining, a dedicated butler, a personalised in-suite bar, and Jurlique bath products.
 
All rail journeys include welcome light refreshments and sparkling wine, as well as off-train experiences in renowned destinations.
 
Some Journey Beyond rail holidays combine rail travel with guided land touring or cruise itineraries.
What is the difference between The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern?
The main difference between The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern is the regions they travel through and the experiences they offer. 
 
The Ghan journeys through the iconic Red Centre between the Northern Territory and South Australia, showcasing the Outback's rich cultural heritage and dramatic landscapes. One of the most popular routes is Darwin to Adelaide (or reverse).
 
The Great Southern explores Australia’s south-east coastline, making it ideal for the warmer months, with journeys between Adelaide and Brisbane (or reverse), or Brisbane to Melbourne during January and December only. The Indian Pacific travels east to west across the country, with itineraries between Sydney to Perth (or reverse).
 
Each journey features its own signature experiences — from The Ghan’s Alice Springs Desert Park visit to the Great Southern’s Coffs Harbour seafood dinner, and a Barossa Valley dining experience on an Indian Pacific journey.
How much do Journey Beyond train journeys cost?
The cost of a Journey Beyond train ticket will depend on the itinerary, cabin, fare type, and departure season.
 
Journeys across the Indian Pacific, The Ghan and the Great Southern all follow a similar pricing structure, with Gold Single being the most affordable option, through to Platinum cabins and Suites as the highest-priced. Suites are currently only available on The Ghan.
 
For Gold cabins, there are three fare types: Advance Purchase, Everyday and Flexible, while Platinum and Suites are only available on the latter two.
 
Advance Purchase fares for Gold Single and Gold Twin cabins are often the most popular, as they are typically the lowest-priced options when booked at least six months in advance.
 
As a general guide, a 3-day Indian Pacific journey from Adelaide to Perth may range from around $2,690 per person in a Gold Single cabin to approximately $3,590 per person twin share in a Gold Premium Twin cabin during the June–July off-season on an Advance Purchase fare.

What’s included in a Journey Beyond holiday package?
All three trains—the Great Southern, The Ghan and the Indian Pacific—can be booked as part of a Journey Beyond holiday package, combining rail journeys with either land touring or a cruise.
 
Journey Beyond holiday packages are all-inclusive.
 
One popular The Ghan holiday package is the Red Centre Spectacular from Darwin to Adelaide. It includes three nights (two at the beginning and one night towards the end of the itinerary) onboard The Ghan Expedition with off-train experiences, followed by a 7-night guided Outback Spirit tour, all meals with beverages and accommodation in exclusive stays. 
 
The Ghan can also be travelled in reverse from Adelaide to Darwin, before continuing on a 10-night all-inclusive Kimberley expedition cruise with Ponant.
 
Great Southern holiday packages combine the perks of rail travel such as the Brisbane to Adelaide journey with land touring, on the Spectacular Kangaroo Island package.
Are Journey Beyond trains all-inclusive?
Yes, Journey Beyond train journeys (and their holiday packages) are all-inclusive. 
 
Everything is included on a Journey Beyond holiday. While specific inclusions and service levels can vary according to cabin type, for example Gold cabin guests have three-course dinners compared to five in Platinum, all train travellers enjoy hearty breakfasts, multi-course meals, premium wines, barista-made coffee and more.
What are the different cabin types on Journey Beyond trains?
The cabin categories across all three Journey Beyond trains generally follow the same sequence: Gold Single, Gold Twin, Gold Premium Twin, Gold Premium Suite and Platinum, with Gold Single and Gold Twin the most affordable and most popular options, and Platinum the highest priced.
 
New to The Ghan in 2026, the luxury Australis and Aurora Suites are complete with butler service, a personalised bar, premium Australian wines, luxury bed linen and pillow menu.
 
Platinum cabins are almost double the size of Gold Twin and Gold Premium Twin cabins, while the Australis Suite is almost three times the size of a Platinum cabin.
 
Each cabin category has access to its own dedicated lounge and dining space. The Outback Explorer Lounge and Queen Adelaide Restaurant is reserved for Gold guests, while Gold Premium guests have exclusive access to the Gold Premium Lounge and Restaurant, and Platinum and Suite guests are hosted in the private Platinum Club.
How long are Journey Beyond train journeys?
Journey Beyond train journeys range in length from 3 days on itineraries like The Ghan Darwin to Adelaide, to 4 days on routes such as the Indian Pacific Sydney to Perth, or the Great Southern railway, Brisbane to Adelaide.
 
Journey Beyond holiday packages are longer in duration, typically ranging from 7 to 16 days depending on the destination. These combine rail journeys with luxury outback touring, or rail with luxury cruising in some of Australia’s most remote regions.
