Day 1: Launceston
Welcome to Launceston! Dating back to 1806, Launnie (as the locals call it) is a blend of heritage buildings and beautiful landscapes with a vibrant foodie scene. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 2 pm. If you arrive in the city early, why not discover one of the many museums on display? After the meeting, head to the Cataract Gorge, where a First Nations guide will deliver a Welcome to Country ceremony and take you on a cultural tour. The landscape will come to life as you sample bush tucker and hear the history of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Then it’s back to Launceston for a group dinner where you can get to know your fellow travellers and toast to your upcoming adventures.
Day 2: Launceston
Rise early and hit the road headed for Cradle Mountain National Park. On the way you’ll stop to stretch your legs at Sheffield, where you can admire the more than 140 murals that depict local stories and characters. Once at Cradle Mountain National Park, a keeper will lead you on a tour of Devils @ Cradle – a unique Tasmanian devil sanctuary. Fuel up with a group lunch, then spend the afternoon touring the stunning national park. With many options to enjoy the breathtaking peaks, you can take walks to Waldheim Chalet, King Billy Pine and Glacier Rock, or keep your eyes peeled for wombats at Ronny Creek. Once you’ve had your fill, drive back to Launceston and find the perfect dinner spot – it'll be tough to go wrong in a UNESCO city of gastronomy!
Day 3: Freycinet National Park
Say farewell to Launceston and drive south, stopping first in Campbell Town. Grab a coffee and get a glimpse of Tasmania’s colonial history with a wander down the Convict Line – a row of red bricks detailing convict names, ships and crimes. Then continue to Freycinet National Park, home to beaches with powder-white sands and translucent waters. Follow the path up to Cape Tourville Lighthouse for panoramic views, then sample some local seafood for lunch at a marine farm. Later, join your leader for the walk to Wineglass Bay – voted one of the world’s top 10 beaches and a real slice of paradise. Check into Freycinet Lodge, your Feature Stay for the next two nights. Take some time to get settled in, then enjoy a group dinner at the lodge.
Day 4: Freycinet National Park
This morning, embark on a cruise along the coasts of Freycinet National Park. Starting from Coles Bay, you’ll sail next to the Cooks and Bryans beaches and beneath the pink peaks of the Hazards range. Keep an eye out for penguins and short-tailed shearwaters on Schouten Island, then get a new perspective of the spectacular Wineglass Bay from the water. If you’re lucky, you might even get a visit from a pod of dolphins! Once back on dry land, you’ll have free time in the afternoon to choose your own adventure. You might like to take in more of the national park on a hike along the Freycinet Walk and Cycle Track or head to your accommodation’s spa for some rest and relaxation. For dinner tonight, you can take your pick from the multiple restaurants the lodge has on offer.
Day 5: Hobart
Depart Freycinet and drive to the historic town of Richmond. Wander through the quaint Georgian streetscape and over the iconic sandstone bridge and pay a visit to Old Hobart Town – a model village capturing Hobart as it stood in the 1820s. Before leaving Richmond, be sure to grab some authentic Tasmanian pastries from the bakery. A local winery will host you for lunch and a wine tasting, then you’ll continue to Hobart where you’ll have a free evening. Relax at your accommodation or maybe head out with your group for dinner at one of the city’s popular restaurants.
Day 6: Hobart
Today’s a real treat for your tastebuds as you travel to Bruny Island. Start sweet with a sample of Tasmanian honey at Bruny Island Honey, then get your bearings and take in the island’s scenery from The Neck Lookout. Visit the Bligh Museum of Pacific Exploration and learn Bruny Island’s colonial history. Keep the feast going with lunch at the Bruny Island Hotel (shucked oysters, anyone?), then it’s time for a beer and cheese tastings. Head back to Hobart for the evening to share a final drink and some appetizers with your fellow travellers and toast to your exploration (and a gorgeous day of eating, drinking and exploring)!
Day 7: Hobart
Your Tasmanian adventure comes to an end this morning after breakfast. If you’d like to spend more time in the charming streets of Hobart, just speak to your booking agent to organise additional accommodation.
