Intrepid tour inclusions vary by itinerary and trip style, ranging from Basix through to Comfort, Original and Premium.
 
Each tour has a style, offering insights into what to expect and a good place to start when choosing an itinerary.
 
For example, when considering Intrepid Vietnam tours, the popular Vietnam Express Southbound follows the Original style – Intrepid’s classic approach featuring 3-Star accommodation, some included meals, and a balance of free time and activities. 
 
Comfort trips such as Classic Vietnam include 3–4 star stays, more meals and activities, and a more relaxed pace. Basix options like Essential Vietnam focus on lower costs and greater flexibility, with mostly free time, minimal inclusions, and 2–3 star accommodation, while optional activities are available at an extra cost.
 
At the other end, Premium Vietnam offers handpicked accommodation, the most inclusions, and added touches like an arrival transfer, with daily breakfast and many lunches and dinners included.

Intrepid group tours are small, with just 12 to 14 people accompanied by an expert local leader. Exact numbers vary by tour style and theme, though most trips average around 12 travellers.
 
Keeping numbers low helps create those meaningful experiences and connection to destination and community that underpins Intrepid’s purpose in travel. 
 
Smaller groups also allow for easier exploration, including access to those hidden, off-the-beaten-path places that make trips so memorable.
 
Included activities are designed with small groups in mind too. On Intrepid Italy tours, such as the Original Rome to Amalfi, travellers might enjoy a limoncello tasting in Sorrento or experience Café Sospeso at a local coffee shop — a centuries-old pay-it-forward tradition in Naples.

No, flights are not included as standard on an Intrepid tour.
 
Intrepid does, however, offer a limited number of flight and tour packages, combining a small group tour itinerary and inclusions with return economy flights from either Sydney or Melbourne. A complimentary airport transfer on arrival is also included. 
 
These packages are typically available on Intrepid’s most popular, close-to-home destinations, including Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Australia and India, and occasionally further away in places such as Mexico.
 
Intrepid regularly updates these packages, so it’s worth checking with a travel agent to see what’s currently on offer.

Yes, in fact, solo travel is one of Intrepid’s key trip themes, with about half of Intrepid travellers joining a group tour on their own. 
 
Travelling solo within a small group offers the companionship and reassurance of an expert local leader and fellow travellers, fostering connection through shared experiences while still allowing time for independent discovery.
 
Solo-focused trips are mostly offered in Intrepid’s Original style, with a balanced mix of included activities and free time, followed by Basix trips, which offer the most flexibility.
 
Options range from women’s expeditions in Peru, Turkey or Nepal, to Antarctica expedition cruises, as well as small group tours in Far North Queensland, Croatia, South Africa, Egypt and more.
 
Solo travellers can choose to share a room with another solo traveller of the same gender or have their own room at an additional cost. 

Premium tours are one of Intrepid’s trip styles, offering a more relaxed pace of travel with the most inclusions.
 
Intrepid Premium tours fall under the Explorer trip theme, designed for the full Intrepid experience with a mix of immersive activities and adventures that foster a deeper connection to destination, with the added comforts of premium travel.
 
Expect more included activities led by Intrepid’s most experienced local leaders, along with more meals, resort or boutique-style accommodation, and a Feature Stay. This might include the Monastery Guesthouse in Athens on the Premium Greece tour, or an overnight boat cruise on UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ha Long Bay on the Premium Vietnam trip, complete with a candlelight dinner.
 
Intrepid Premium Family holidays also focus on shared experiences, from visiting a local family to learn how to make tortillas and enjoying a traditional lunch, to unwinding in hot springs during a rainforest bungalow Feature Stay on the Costa Rica Family Tour.

Intrepid regularly runs travel deals across hundreds of tours and all trip styles — Basix, Comfort, Original and Premium — covering popular themes such as Walking & Trekking, Explorer, Wildlife and Women’s Expeditions.
 
Deals run throughout the year for a limited time. These might include Europe Earlybird offers, Australia tour deals, Asia sales or broader worldwide sales, with discounts typically ranging from 5% to 20%, or sometimes up to 30% off selected trips and departure dates within set sale and travel periods. 
 
Intrepid also runs year-round offers. 
 
Last Minute deals feature discounted departures on trips leaving within the next 90 days, mostly on close-to-home destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia with popular places like Borneo, Japan, Bali and India. They’re also available on destinations further away on favourites such as Morocco Uncovered and Inca Trail Express in Peru. 
 
Flight and tour package deals are also available, so keep an eye out for these, as they offer great value small group tour inclusions with return economy flights from either Sydney or Melbourne, and a complimentary airport transfer on arrival. 
 

Intrepid doesn’t enforce a strict age limit, there are however, a few general guidelines to consider.
 
Most Intrepid trips across all styles (Basix, Original, Comfort and Premium) are open to travellers aged 15 and over. Travellers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
 
There’s no maximum age. Some trips can be a bit more physically demanding or fast-paced, so it’s more about fitness level and being able to comfortably participate in the intinerary than age itself.
 
They also offer specific trip themes such as 18–35s trips designed for younger travellers, while family trips are tailored for parents travelling with children between the ages of 5 and 17. Dedicated family teenage trips have a minimum age of 10.
 
Overall, it’s quite inclusive—most travellers just choose a trip that matches their pace, interests and activity level.

The main difference with Intrepid is the emphasis they place on connecting travellers to destination, with local communities at the core through responsible travel. 
 
Even on premium trips, the approach is low-key and experience-driven rather than luxury-focused. It’s best suited to travellers looking for a more authentic, flexible and locally focused way to travel, instead of a highly structured or comfort-first tour.
 
Group sizes are small, typically 12 to 14 travellers, which helps create more immersive, locally led experiences. These might include a cooking class in a village on a Kenya safari, or a home-cooked meal with a family in Cairo on an Egypt & Jordan trip.
 
Transport often reflects how locals get around, using a mix of public transport, walking and occasional private vehicles. Trips are led by local guides, with itineraries featuring locally owned accommodation that supports communities or uses renewable energy.
