Frequently asked questions
Scenic river cruises are truly all-inclusive, with an ultra-luxury suite, dining, beverages, butler service and onshore experiences all included. Wi-Fi and tipping are also included, along with return airport transfers on eligible journeys.
Dining ranges from relaxed meals to fine dining and in-suite dining, with up to five dining experiences on European river cruises and up to four in Southeast Asia. Premium international wines, beers and spirits are included throughout the day, along with speciality teas and coffees. Suites also have a minibar restocked daily, and guests receive a refillable water bottle for onshore experiences. A small selection of fine and vintage wines, Champagnes and spirits costs extra.
Onshore experiences include Scenic Freechoice excursions, offering guests a variety of ways to explore each destination, along with exclusive Scenic Enrich events.
For example, on one of the Spectacular South of France river cruise itineraries, Scenic Freechoice Excursions may include a choice of either a wine tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a chocolate-making workshop and tasting at Chocolaterie Castelain, or a bike tour along the Rhône river. In Southeast Asia, selected luxury Mekong river cruises include a Scenic Enrich gala dinner exclusively for Scenic guests at Prasat Kravan, a 10th-century Angkor temple in Siem Reap.
In Europe, guests travel aboard Scenic’s 5-star Space-Ships, carrying up to 163 guests. Ultra-luxury suites include butler service, with selected room categories featuring separate lounge areas and a Scenic Sun Lounge. In Southeast Asia, Scenic Spirit is custom-built for the Mekong and carries up to 68 guests, with multi-room suites and private balconies throughout.
Passenger numbers range from just 68 on Scenic Mekong River cruises aboard the boutique Scenic Spirit, to 96 guests on European river cruises aboard a Scenic Space-Ship, and up to 228 guests on Scenic Eclipse Discovery Yacht ocean cruises. Antarctica expedition voyages cater to around 200 guests.
While there are many luxury cruise lines, Scenic sits at the ultra-luxury end of the market, with 5-star river cruises and 6-star ocean voyages aboard Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II. While smaller guest numbers and high crew-to-guest ratios are common in luxury cruising, one of Scenic’s biggest points of difference is its truly all-inclusive approach, with an extensive range of onboard and onshore experiences included in the cruise fare.
On Scenic river cruises, the all-inclusive experience covers dining, beverages, butler service, Wi-Fi, tipping and a minibar refreshed daily, along with Scenic Freechoice excursions and exclusive Scenic Enrich events. This gives guests different ways to explore without having to add these experiences separately to the cost of their cruise. Return airport transfers are also available on eligible journeys.
Scenic’s ocean cruises follow the same all-inclusive approach, offering up to 10 dining experiences, from casual to fine dining, premium beverages, butler service and a minibar refreshed daily, along with a choice of Scenic Freechoice excursions. The custom-designed Discovery Yachts are also built for different styles of ocean cruising, reaching smaller ports and remote destinations on coastal, discovery and expedition voyages. Depending on the voyage, ways to explore can include Zodiac cruising, kayaking and guided walks with the Discovery Team.
Sailings span all seven continents, more than 100 countries and over 600 destinations, from European river cruises and Scenic Kimberley cruises to Antarctica expedition voyages.
Scenic also stands apart from some luxury cruise lines by offering more than just cruises. Their luxury small group land journey tours explore destinations including Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, Africa, Canada and Alaska, with Scenic’s Freechoice excursions and exclusive Scenic Enrich events also included.
Scenic ultra-luxury cruises visit destinations around the world, with river cruises through Europe and Southeast Asia, and Discovery Yacht voyages across Europe and the Mediterranean, Australia and the South Pacific, Asia and the Americas. Scenic also offers Expedition Voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic.
In Europe, Scenic river cruises explore the Rhine, Main, Danube and Moselle through Central Europe. The popular Scenic Jewels of Europe cruise travels between Amsterdam and Budapest, while Scenic river cruises in France explore the Seine, Rhône and Saône, as well as the waterways of Bordeaux. Portugal is another option with a Scenic Douro river cruise through the Douro Valley wine region.
In Southeast Asia, a Scenic Mekong River cruise travels through Vietnam and Cambodia, with journeys also extending into Laos.
For Signature Yacht Cruising, Scenic Eclipse explores the coastlines and islands of Europe and the Mediterranean. Voyages visit Italy, France, Greece, Spain and Portugal, as well as Scandinavia and the Baltic region, with itineraries taking in Malta, Sicily and the Greek Islands, the French and Italian rivieras and the Iberian coast.
Closer to home, Scenic Kimberley cruises explore Australia’s northwest coast, while other Discovery Yacht voyages visit Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Across the Americas, Scenic cruises North and South America, the Caribbean and Brazil, while Asian ocean voyages include Japan and Southeast Asia.
For a different style of journey, Scenic offers Expedition Voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic aboard its purpose-built Discovery Yachts. In Antarctica, itineraries include Antarctica in Depth aboard Scenic Eclipse, while Arctic voyages explore destinations including Greenland, Iceland and Svalbard.
Scenic and Emerald Cruises are sister brands within Australian-founded Scenic Group, with river cruise itineraries across Europe and Southeast Asia. Both include accommodation, dining and onshore experiences, although the style and level of inclusions differ. Scenic focuses on five-star, truly all-inclusive ultra-luxury river cruising, while Emerald Cruises offers luxury river cruising with many inclusions covered in the fare.
Both brands include ways to explore each destination. Scenic offers Scenic Freechoice activities to suit different interests, alongside exclusive Scenic Enrich cultural events. Emerald Cruises offers EmeraldPLUS cultural experiences and EmeraldACTIVE options such as hiking, biking and canoeing.
A key difference is beverages. Scenic includes premium wines, beers and spirits throughout the day, apart from a small selection of fine and vintage options which cost extra. Emerald Cruises includes selected wines, draft beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, with broader drinks packages available at an additional cost.
The two brands also cruise many of the same waterways and destinations. For example, Scenic’s Rhine Christmas Markets and Emerald Cruises’ Christmas Markets on the Rhine itineraries both feature eight-day cruises between Zurich and Amsterdam, so the choice can come down to what’s included and the preferred experience.
On board, both offer wellness and fitness facilities, regionally-influenced menus and selected suites with an indoor-outdoor balcony concept. Scenic’s five-star Space-Ships include butler service and up to five dining experiences on European river cruises, with facilities that can include a Vitality Pool, gym and Salt Therapy Lounge. Emerald Cruises’ Star-Ships feature contemporary suites and staterooms, panoramic lounges, sun decks, dining and wellness areas. Selected ships also have a heated indoor pool that transforms into a cinema on some evenings.
Scenic generally sits at a higher price point, reflecting its ultra-luxury positioning and broader range of inclusions. Emerald Cruises offers many of the same river-cruise essentials with a different level of inclusions.
Scenic cruise deals and offers are available throughout the year across selected river and ocean cruises, with savings varying by destination, departure and itinerary.
Scenic river cruise deals often include Super Earlybird, Earlybird, and general savings offers, as well as solo traveller deals across selected Europe and Southeast Asia river cruises.
Special airfare offers are also available from time to time across selected Scenic Europe river cruises, including Fly Free offers or flight credits on selected journeys and travel dates. Offers can apply to popular journeys on selected Beautiful Bordeaux and Normandy & Gems of the Seine itineraries.
For ocean cruising aboard Scenic Eclipse and Scenic’s Discovery Yachts, deals often include Super Earlybird, Earlybird, destination-based offers, such as flight offers on Antarctica expeditions. Savings may also be available when combining an ocean cruise with a land journey. Solo traveller offers are usually available on selected sailings throughout the year.
As Scenic cruise specials are usually available for limited periods, check the offer available for your preferred journey and departure. Scenic offers are generally not combinable.
